Chinese Taipei Won 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 10 Bronze at the 2024 WorldSkills Competition.


WorldSkills Competition was initially organized by Spain in 1950. There are so far 85 countries (regions) joining in the WorldSkills . The secretariat of WorldSkills is established in Netherlands.

 

This international organization is aimed at increasing opportunities for worldwide young technicians to learn from each other to build up mutual understanding and for counties to enhance the exchange information and experience concerning vocational training and education by means of events like international skill competitions and seminars. The development of vocational training and education worldwide would move forward through this grand event.

 

WorldSkills Competition is held every 2 years. The competition now has been held 45 times since 1950, and the competition categories had increase from 12 to 56. Taiwan attended the organization in 1970 at the first time. Since the 20th WorldSkills Competition, Taiwan government had sent its extraordinary competitors regularly to take part in the event and their excellent performance had been widely recognized by the judgments from other countries. In 1993, Taiwan first hosted the 32nd WorldSkills Competition in Taipei from July 19th to Aug. 2nd and it had reached great success.

 

The 45th WorldSkills Competition took place in Kazan, Russia from Aug. 22nd to Aug. 27th, 2019. Taiwan sent 50 competitors to compete in 45 skill categories and brought home 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 5 bronze medals and 23 awards for excellence. Moreover, Taiwan came to the 3rd place in terms of the total amount of medals. The WorldSkills Juniors was held by Russia for the first time. Chinese Taipei participated in 6 skills in total of 13 skills and totally won 5 medals, including 4 Silver and 1 Bronze.

 

The 46th WorldSkills International (WSI) announced on June 30th, 2022 the hosting of the WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition (WSC2022SE), featuring a decentralized format. Competitions across various Skills were held by 15 countries in Europe, America, and Asia from September 7th to November 26th, 2022. The 15 host countries included Austria, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy (South Tyrol), Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Taiwan clinched a total of 6 gold medals, 13 silver medals, 6 bronze medals, and 17 Medallions of Excellence, ranked 3rd among 57 participating countries.

 

The 47th WorldSkills Competition took place in Lyon, France from Sep. 10th to Sep. 15th, 2024. Taiwan sent 58 competitors to compete in 50 skill categories and brought home 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 10 bronze medals and 28 awards for excellence.
